Outsourcing has to be studied

In Precision Marketing (October 6) you highlighted two stories that voiced concerns over the current state of the outsourcing industry. On closer examination, however, you’d have to wonder what all the fuss is about.

As Forester Research points out, there are more security breaches in the UK than in India, while the headline ‘outsourcing industry sees decline’ goes on to state that business process outsourcing (BPO) is expected to grow by almost 10 per cent.

What can we make of all this?

The outsourcing of direct marketing services is set to be the next stage in the sector’s evolution. Many UK digital campaigns are already coded in South Africa, while some agencies are outsourcing artwork and production facilities to India. Our own data bureau company services UK clients but is based in Manila, Philippines.

Some 95 per cent of the US’ top 1,000 companies have an offshore strategy. Within ten years, the same percentage will be true for UK direct marketing.
